Rodney asks:
"While the Fiero powertrain may not be so desireable, how about it's fuel
injection system? What other recommended EFI's? "

Craig replies:
The Fiero system is an excellent choice (140 net hp @ 5200 vs 0ur 140 gross
hp @5200). It's a pretty simple system (no MAF, crank sensor, or knock
sensor). I've been running one for about 8-9 years. Check it out at
http://members.aol.com/nicolcs/corvairefi/ and in the Dec '99 Communique.
The stock Fiero programming works out well (Base fuel map is exactly right)
except for idle speeds where the low idle-vacuum 304 cam initially directs
the ecm into a rich mixture which requires it to "learn" a lesser fuel value
based on O2 feedback.

I also have a system that's based on the Nissan/Bosch 280Z. This one is
actually a bit more "solid" than the Fiero system 'cause the computer
doesn't learn, therefore it doesn't experiment around (looking for an
optimum fuel rate)like the newer "smarter" Fiero unit. The drawback is that
this is ancient hardware (1978-9).

Another donor that might be simper than the Fiero unit would be the 2.8
Bronco II system. It takes one less sensor than the Fiero unit (no VSS)
with the drawback that there's less diagnostic output from Ford ecm's of
that (late '80s, early 90's) era.

There has been some discussion / speculation that the 91-2 S-10 2.8 TBI
(throttle body) programming and hardware would be a good fit, but AFIK, no
one has tried one.
