If the seal in the dipstick worked, it would be a moot point.


I have worked on many Corvairs over the years that were worn enough to 
push oil out the dipstick tube, but ran well enough for the owner to 
use. The simple cure (read cheap) was to cut off that little piece of 
tube. The only other solution was an engine rebuild. Guess which process 
I did more of?

So what is better for the health of the occupants, some fumes comming 
out the dipstick, or fumes from all that oil evaporating off the turkey 
roaster?
