I am in the middle of a restoration and the aluminum base at the bottom of
each door will not get bright and shiny. Has anyone had success with a
process
that makes them brighter?

I believe (not sure) the door sills were aluminum. Polished, then anodized.
To really brighten them up, you would have to remove the anodizing coating,
then polish them up - and keep on polishing them forever. Or clear coat
them.
- does anybody know the liquid to apply to remove the anodized coating? -

Oven Cleaner,,, Lye will remove the anodizing. let it set for about 45 min
to an hour. Then scrub it off with a
scotchbrite pad. Use good rubber gloves. The kind used for chemical handling.

It will leave a dull grey finish.

Buff it very carefully and coat with a good clear coat.

I've found the clear coat sold at Ace hardware to work the best.

Done this many times. Anyone see the Raffle car at the 2005 GWFBT&SM?
