I recently got lucky, when I almost bought a "flood car" 2001 Miata that was 
not registered as "salvage."

The clue, though I don't know why the car lot owner didn't fix this, was the 
silt line up to the shock towers under the hood.

Otherwise the car was spotless, but that may why he kept lowering the price 
as I tried to leave the lot.
