Keerect!!  As a gun guy, Huh? I can attest to that ....Huh?

BUT:  Peltor ( one brand ) has some really trick ear muffs that lets you
hear normally ( or even turn up the sound to start with ... let's you hear
mice walking .. )... but if a sudden loud noise is created, super quick
turns down the amplification to avoid the blast ( of a gun for instance )...
these things are magic and the cost is maybe $150 or so ....
......... look like big blue mouse ears .. and too big to get under a helmet
..... there probably are some that would fit in ( or built into ) a helmet
somewhere, if you get a chance, try these, they are astoundingly effective..
