<VV> hand controls and stick shift

Guys,
A Corvair friend uses hand controls. They are a two axis device; push straight down toward the floor to apply throttle (actually parallel to the face of the steering wheel), push forward toward the pedals to apply brakes (self energizing; sort of). Actually easy to powerbrake - if you want to.
He has had two manual transmission cars set-up with hand controls. Upon initial application of the 'brake' direction the clutch is depressed, further application applies the brakes. Of course, when shifting he had no hands on the wheel.
