Staying Cool in HOT weather Re: <VV> CORSA Convention - weather

Hey Frank,

I was more using you (like THAT hasn't happened to you before? - G) as a springboard to "head it all off at the pass", so to speak.

But as to the aim of your original complaint, it all depends on who bids on hosting the convention. Beggers can't be choosers, and sometimes CORSA has had to beg for volunteers to host it. I don't envy the board's task, and I've been there myself. True, it would be nice if ALL conventions were in temperate climates, but they aren't. Some of the worst ones I've been to have been in Texas, Florida, and DC, to name a few. Even Lake Placid was no picnic, because it was during the summer solstice. I got fried like an egg. But I wouldn't have missed any of them on account of it, either. And that includes the one where I spent the day judging concours, then had to go back to the hotel room, strip buck naked, and lay under the shower for a half hour while wringing the heat from my body.

How do I keep cool otherwise? I just make every effort not to spend long stretches of time out in the blazing sun, AND I carry a big umbrella with me. It's amazing how much heat you can reflect off you under an umbrella. Now you have your tech tip for the day. :o)

Hey Mark,
If you're going to whine about us other whiners, at least get your facts straight. I'm not complaining about "how hot it is in the summertime". I am disagreeing with CORSA's decision to always pick SUMMERTIME to hold the Conventions occasionally in the hottest areas of the country. Lake Placid, Portland, Chicago and even Flagstaff are fine. But Houston, south Florida and Phoenix would not be.
I too like A/C in my cars. But somehow I can't seem to get it to keep me cool when I'm walking around outside at the Corvair swap meets, and the car shows and while spectating at the autocross and all other OUTSIDE events. Maybe you can tell me your secret on how you manage to get your A/C to keep you cool under those conditions.

Happens every year, it seems. Somebody whining about how hot it is in the
summertime. That's why they call it summer. If it was cold, they'd call it
winter! Duh....

And as for having it in "the 'cool' month of June" goes, THINK. When's the
longest day of the year? In JUNE. You "may" not have quite as hot a
temperature, but you'll burn your skin to a crisp faster than any time
else, 'cause the sun's at its most direct.

In all, SPARE ME from such inane whining. And no, I don't particularly like
the summer heat. But that's why I have air conditioning in all my cars.
Nothing better than an Air 'Vair! :o)
