<VV> Severe steering wheel wobble

My son has posed a problem on his '65 coupe.  When braking heavily at highway speeds, he gets severe steering wheel wobble.  The situation doesn't exist at low speeds and the car tracks straight under normal driving conditions.  All brake linings are clean and free of grease, brake fluid, etc. and drums are good.  There is a slight pull to the left under normal braking.  Has anyone experienced the same problem?  Tie rod end, idler arm, alignment?  He wants to bring the car to Detroit, but not as it is.
