Ask Mark... I think he actually saw one of the 14 or so built '65 
Spyder coupes that were dealer demos.    There's existing evidence to 
demonstrate that there had been intent to produce a '65 Corvair 
badged as a Spyder...  look at the Monza cross on the fender of a 
'65... positioned so as to allow a Spyder script badge to fit under 
it, ala standard Spyder style.   Also, there are existing promo 
photos of '65 Spyders here and there which evidently were not retouches.

Mark, what's the real deal?

I doubt it.   "Spyder" is a somewhat generic variation of a car, not 
unlike GT or GTO etc.    Arguably, the first GTO was a Ferrari (250) 
yet a couple years later GM was selling their own GTO-badged car even 
if it wasn't really.   ;)    And, it also didn't stop GM from using 
the name Spyder on the mid-late '70s Vega/Monza platform 
offering.     Personally I thought it was blasphemy.
