<VV> From clutch to worse.. (1964 Sydper Turbo)

OK, Now you got me spooked. I spent today installing a new clutch, pressure
plate, and Dale bolted flywheel. I followed the tip in one of the books to
use the transmission shaft to tap the pilot bearing into the crank. It was
such a tight fit, I could not get the shaft back out. Finally, by using
some vice grips on the shaft I was able to spin it and slowly back it out.
I will say, however, when I inserted the shaft to line up the clutch, it was
sufficiently easier that it calmed my concerns. I had prepped the bushing
by compressing oil in it with my fingers (again, per the book) and as the
excess oil was gradually removed through repeated insertions of the shaft,
it got progressively easier to insert and remove the shaft. I will,
however, pay careful attention to the shifting characteristics, looking for
any evidence of a "direct drive" condition.
