I can supply one data point in contradiction to the idea that boys are into
working on cars and girls are not.

Leave it the engineer to provide a "data point".... Let me add to the
curve...

My oldest daughter loves cars. She was very excited to help change the oil
in "her" Corsica, bragging to her friends. She keeps bugging me to go car
shopping with her. She saved her money and now wants a Camaro. That's much better
than her first choice, a Mustang. She also want to autocross her car. I know
it would be a great educational experience for her. I'm just not sure I want
to deal with her beating me around the cones.

Anyhow, my co-worker and fellow autocrosser has a son that's a year younger
than my daughter. My friend has tried everything to get the boy interested. He
bought a shifter car project for them to work on, didn't work. He offered
him the Porsche 924S to drive to school (really an excuse for him to buy a new
autocross car). My friend has to almost beg the kid just to go practice
driving.

Now, my second daughter is learning to drive. She's scared of the gas pedal.
Actually, that's OK with me, her nickname since she's been moving on her own
has been "Crash." And she's earned it...

OK plot that...
Ned
