Arjay,  You didn't risk losing a Corvair friend--the guy that accepted the 
belt and didn't replace it risked losing your respect.  I hope he comes to his 
senses (or regains his memory) and gets you a new belt.  You certainly saved 
his day.  Like you, I have had kindnesses taken advantage of, but it only 
reflects on the crassness of the other guy and not on the car he's driving.
