Once upon a time, in a '65 'Vair with nasty brake lines, I flushed
everything with methanol. Then I flushed it again, until the stuff
came out clear. Then I filled the system again, pumped the clear
alcohol out again etc ad nauseam. (I had several gallons of
methanol on hand at the time)
Last fillup of alky I simply left in the system until the next day to
"soak" things. Then I needed to move the car around etc, didn't
think about the methanol in the brake system and never noticed any
problems with the brakes including a trip town the road to the
grocers and then to the parts store and a stop at a burger joint
before it occurred to me that there was no brake fluid in the system,
just alcohol.
Brakes seemed to work fine. Not sure I'd have wanted to hit them
hard enough to heat things up though. I *Did* flush the system
again and blow it out with compressed air, through all four corners,
then put brake fluid back in.
It has occurred to me more than once that I have a lot of moron
stories like this under my belt.
