First, a note to note the missing of Tony, Herb, & Ed -- God Bless!

Anyway, being of very limited Corvair auto trans experience, I was
recently noticing that it seemed the hole for the shifter cable was
punched 'backwards' in the front crossmember of the '60 I was working
on, and wondered that if removing the cable from this hole by twisting
it 180º could lead to the number of broken / leaking cables that are
reported. Thusly, I wondered if this was just on the two '60 auto
crossmembers I have, or was this 'backwards' thing carried on throughout
the life of the design, or is there a good reason for this
'backwardness' of which I am unaware (like a website or book on Corvair
auto trannies that I haven't read)?

I plan on taking the die grinder out to modify the hole's shape. Any
thoughts?

Thanks,

Bill Strickland
