You guys & ladies also , are probably familiar with the group, The Monzas, a group that was together almost exactly the same time frame that Corvair Monza(s) were in production. They formed in '62 and took their name from their vocalist Linda "Quig" Quinlin's Corvair Monza Spyder. I was not familiar with the group until I read about them in the new book "The Heeey Baby Days Of Beach Music", by Greg Haynes ISBN 0-9786047-0-9 which is a fine book which chronicles most of the touring / recording American garage bands/r&b soulful rock n roll frat groups on the southern eastern seaboard prior to the onset of the Heavy Music/Acid Rock era. Pages 366 thru 371 are devoted to the Monzas and their story. One of their songs, "Instant Love" is included on disc 2 of the two CDs which accompany the book. I thought you guys might want to know that. I know several people whose bands are also in the book that toured the same venues during that era that were
popular. The Oxford Nights used to practice down the street, back in the day, their track : I'm Such A Lonely One , is on disc 1. Their 45 , DL-0016 from '66 is sought after and excellent examples have fetched over $500 on e-bay as recently as Jan 2007 good track ,good group Delphi label (black label/silver letter b/w Just Give Us Time ) Back to The Monzas: they had 45's : "Hey! I Know You" Wand label WND 1120 from about '65 and on Pacific label 1002 "Instant Love" late 60's and "Baby You Know" a single from '65. good group with a pretty good name! An excellent book that does justice for many of these long forgotten groups from an era when good singing and a basic but competant groovy back beat went a long way. Rock On, only difference today, is Satisfaction, Rain, Shotgun, Rescue Me and Good Lovin blast louder and clearer from my Vair on a sunny day with the top down than the Lear 8 track allowed, good thing since
years of having Vox & Marshall cabinets lined up to eye level behind me have made that necessary. Keep those Corvairs rolling, good tunes, blaring (optional) & a sunny day --Priceless! -----Tamias Metis
