<VV> Questions: corvair / dune buggy / maybe VW????

friend just trailered home a manx<sp?> type dune buggy from the 70's in GREAT SHAPE with some graphic that lool rat finkish.... very cool

  1 trans axle looks wierd, 3 spd w/ a solid axle on wheel side and a boot with bolts on inboard side.. early vair or vw???

  2 it has a center mount 4bbl holly with a copper pipe running from the side of the carb to the port-side exaust pipe.. what the heck could that be for ?!?!?!? its piped into the lower side of the carb
