I had pretty decent luck drooling STP oil treatment (and Wynn's 
Friction-Proofing) into steer boxes, didn't seem to wanna leak out 
and the stuff is sticky enough to cling to whatever it touches.    If 
nothing else, none of the boxes ever got worse after the gooey treatment.
