The easiest way to format time and date is "Format -> Cells" then select the exact format (most are pre-formatted), or make your own :

m - for single digit months : Jan = 1
mm - for double digit months : Jan = 01
mmm - for 3-letter abbreviation
mmmm - for full month name

d, dd, ddd and dddd same as for months

yy and yyyy for 2-digit and 4-digit years.

Put them together in nearly any order to get the fomat you want.

dddd mmmm dd, yyyy Saturday January 06, 2007
      mm dd, yyyy 01/06/2007
ddd mmm dd, yy Sat Jan 06, 07
      ddd mmm dd, yy \@ hh:mm:ss am/pm Sat Jan 06, 07 @ 04:59:59 PM

NOTE : Put a 'backslash' before any actual character you may want (i.e. : \@)
