<VV> 140 pinging

Hi gentleman,
 
I am probably revisiting a long dead issue.  I drove a '67 Porsche  911S 
today down the highway at great power and speed.  It was nice  but............I 
love my '66 140/4 but if I do the same thing with it, it pings  at times and I 
hate that.  I know that if you let fuel stagnate in the  secondaries it loses 
some octane but that really shouldn't be an issue as I  purge them often.  Any 
suggestions?  Thanks gents.
