Based on the extensive research done by Mark Ellis and
Dave Newell, THE authorities on the 69 models, #6000
was indeed the last Corvair built on May 14th, 1969.
GM had a number of requests from prominent collectors
and even dealers to purchase the car, but in the end,
the corporation refused to sell it to anyone.

The car's window sticker had "Chevrolet Division" as
the "deliver to" address.

Most accounts (GM management and workers) say that the
car was scrapped by GM shortly after it was built. To
date, no one has come forward with proof that they own
this car, and GM won't release records or say what
happened. #6000 never surfaced after it left the
Willow Run assembly line for storage in the GM garage.
This car was a 95-hp, Powerglide-equipped Monza coupe
in Olympic Gold. Fisher Body gave it a show-car paint
job. The press was invited to see the last one come
off the assembly line, in direct contradiction to
established GM policy.

The last known surviving Corvair, #5999, is in the
Corvair Preservatin Society Museum...Bill Hershkowitz
