Please, please, please do not ever hit your carburetor with anything! It has feelings too! You can't imagine how many damaged YH carbs I see each year with dented and warped bowl covers, cracked fuel inlets, and dimpled fuel filter nuts that were once nicely chromed. If your float or needle is really "stuck" due to varnish, simply bouncing the car up and down should free it up. If not,simply remove the fuel nut and squirt in a bit of carb cleaner directly into the inlet seat, followed by a short mild (around 10-15 psi) blast of compressed air. This will also give you a chance to check and clean your internal fuel filter, and off you go - if it was the carb. (As an aside, the YH accelerator pump is a diaphragm type that is prone to failure if it is allowed to dry out. The usual symptoms of this are a rich mixture, or a bog when acclerating, or leakage at the carb throat.
