Hook the rear wheels, drive line won't be rolling and most of the weight will be at the hitch. The Dakota would be my choice spending more for gas and lodging but heavier than the vanagon.

>I am needing to tow a corvair stationwagon from Smithtown New York to Jacksonville Fla. I have use of a tow dolly where you put two wheels on the dolly and two wheels on the road. The stationwagon is a manual three speed. Is it best to tow the car forward or backward? I plan to try to go there and back with least amount of wasted time. I have a dakota v8 pu with plenty of towing power but no sleeping room, or I have a 1986 vw camper with 90hp and good trailer hitch, with sleeping room to pull into a rest area if get to tired. I also get 20mpg with vw and 15mpg with pu. Any advice would be apprieciated. Thanks, Don.
