Andy,
You should be able to do that on most (maybe all) of the holes - for sure
the perimeter ones. If the oil pan is off, try the 1" bolts in all the
holes to see if any holes are too short. You are only going to gain about 3
threads of "holding power", so don't over torque your fresh bolts because
the next step will be a thread insert.
