Can technology in casting methods, or blending certain alloys together
change some of the pitfalls of pure magnesium?

What are popular alloys to, say, racers in the American LeMans series?

Magnesium is 27% lighter than the same dimensions
of aluminum. Magnesium is also much more
brittle, harder to cast, more expensive, more
prone to corrosion, and has less ultimate
strength than a good aluminum alloy. There are no
magnesium wheels DOT approved for street use
because of the stress cracking problems.
