Ordered clutch kit from Clark's. Rebuilt pressure plate with new ring
gear.
Assembly went fine but starter teeth do not engage ring gear teeth properly.

Hard to describe the noise but it's like teeth not meshing but grinding on
each other. Starter was working perfectly before. Tried replacement (good)
starter with same results.

I second Mike's response. Did you check the condition of the Flywheel?
Clutch runout is not a normal problem - except that the clutch bolts to the
flywheel. If you are suffering rivet failure on the Flywheel, the ring gear can be
clamped in an out of round position - and bad starter engagement can result.
What was the symptom that you treated with the new clutch? - Seth
