We all remember our first Corvair,, Ahh yes the first of sometimes many!

I purchased my first Corvair in the summer 1977 from a gentleman named
Charlie Dye for a sum of $250. I was 17 years old! It was a 62 red on red
Monza coupe. This was at a time when many of my friends would go to a local
mall parking lot (Metro Center) and watch Corvairs autocross. We could not
believe the cars the Corvairs were beating! Although I never autocrossed the
62 it was my first Vair! What about you! Do you have a memory of your first
Corvair??

Ah, yes!! It was 1968 and my 1951 Kaiser with its Olds V8 was giving me
trouble with the 3-carb setup and I needed reliable daily transportation. The
summer before, I had read Nader's book--thought it reminded me of Lysol--and
rented a LM 'Vair for a business trip from Phoenix to Tucson. Liked it so well
I told myself that the next car I bought would be a 'Vair. Checked out the
used car lots and found a '66 coupe; test drove it, found some problems
(flywheel); said I'd buy it if it was fixed; they did and I did and it's sitting
in my driveway today (rather battered and a few rust spots; took a hit in front
from an illegal immigrant so the front body needs more work than I can
afford.)
