Thanks Tony.  I took out the exhaust valve on the suspect cylinder,  
it looks ok - in fact there's not much carbon buildup at all.   
Further, there's no evidence of exhaust gas leakage past the valve.   
That's good.

Bad part was when I took the spring off, there's quite a bit of slop  
in the guide.  I checked another valve, and it's pretty sloppy too.   
I don't think I can bring myself to put it back on, so I'll get the  
head rebuilt.  Sigh.

Still have the Lakewood out back, not sure where it lives on the  
project list, I now have an engine project for the Greenbrier as  
well :-/  I'll let you know whenever it makes it to the top.
