...which was to supply a hot spark capable of bridging a wide gap, 
presenting a big hot flame across the widespread electrodes the 
General was telling people to set, so as to be able to ignite the 
excessively lean mixtures the manufacturers were forced to deal with 
in order to make a Quadrajet pass smog.
