<VV> Not Funny.

Whomever and Everybody else: Speaking as a WASP, I do not find anything
funny about the Klan.

I grew up in SE Michigan, four blocks north of Detroit's city limits. I
went to a diverse high school in the early sixties before the concept was
invented. There were White, Black, Jews, Catholics and Protestants of every
stripe, kids of millionaires mixing with white, blue and no collar families,
including those from the housing projects mixing together. I got much of my
formal and informal education in So. Carolina. Talk about culture shock the
first time I got on a municipal bus in early 1965.....

During the first couple decades of the last century, the local paper here in
Central Illinois was owned and operated by Klan members. There were signs
at the city limits defining who was welcome in the city after dark into the
50's.

Remember the Klan was invented after the Civil War by sore losers who
wanted...and sadly achieved...power over the general population, both black
and white, in most of the South and in lots of northern locations. They
were a terrorist organization in today's nomenclature. Those who remain
still are, but fortunately they are few in number. At their core, the Klan
is no different than the folks killing their countrymen in various parts of
the Middle East and other places we don't hear much about. It's the old
"because you are different than I am in some way, I will either rule over
you or kill you. You choose." This approach to interpersonal relations
smells of smoke and is from the pit of hell.

Historically speaking, the Klan has had more support in the southern
portions of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio than in most parts of the traditional
South. It's been said, only slightly tongue in cheek, that portions on
these states were Yankee occupied Confederacy territory during 1860-1865.
This is also true of Missouri, where there was actual bloody battles and
roving bands of killers.

I know you were trying to do a funny, but please don't joke about the Klan.
Nothing about them and their heart's desires for fellow human beings is
funny.

Your apology accepted.

Historically Yours,
			James Rice

Come on Mark, don't tell me you don't enjoy a good April's Fool joke (and a
few not so good)...
