I've seen this happen a few time.  Make sure someone didn't rebuild the distributor and make it a centrifugally retarded.  To check this pull the cap and rotor, under the rotor there is a little arrow stamped in the top of the shaft.  Turn the shaft in the direction of the arrow.  You may have to put the rotor on to be able to rotate it.  If it turns in the direction of the arrow it is assembled properly, If it rotates against the arrow the distributor was assembled improperly.
