Since this matter was discussed here before, I thought I'd share that
Sunday's New York Times had a small article in the Automobile section explaining
that the Fiat Jerry Seinfeld wrecked was a 1967 500 and it did not roll, it
tipped onto its side. The article quoted the police report which read; "Driver
veh #1 states he was traveling NW on Skimhampton Rd. Upon approaching Rt. 27
he attempted his brakes, which failed, forcing him to pull his emergency
brake and cut the wheel to avoid traffic on Rt. 27, which caused his veh to turn
on its side. No injuries reported." The article went on to say the car
"was hardly damaged at all." Apparently Fiat fanatics have been taking umbrage
at misinformation in the reporting of the incident which they feel maligns
their favorite marque. It's good to know that the Corvair isn't the only
automotive Rodney Dangerfield.
