<VV> Damper door pin

I just repaired one on my '65 Monza. The tab had broken off allowing
the pin to come out far enough that the door jammed open. The tension
on the thermostat rod held it in place. I discovered a few things in
this repair. I could only find one plastic bushing for the door, so
after rummaging around discovered the plastic bushings that hold the
rubber donut in the throttle linkage arm on the transmission fit fine.
It is much easier to drop the bottom sheet metal pan under the exhaust
manifold than trying to fish the clip onto the thermostat rod thru the
door opening. I didn't even remove the rear air grill. Once the pan is
dropped it takes the tension off the rod and it is much easier to put
the bushings on and thread the pin thru the door and into the inner
hole. Then pull the pan toward the front of the car and pop it in
place. I held the pin in by drilling a hole next to the pin and using a
sheet metal screw with a big head. Or a screw and washer will work. I
did have some binding when moving the door so I just grabbed the sheet
metal with vise grips and bent it slightly until the door moved freely.
My screw is on the outside of the door. Just make sure the screw
doesn't keep the door from opening!
