<VV> The four "deadliest" cars of all time...

Totally bogus and extremely misleading. If you look at the article in
the second link, this is 1984-1988 data! Sort of old, don't you think?
Unless, of course, the article is trying to make an
anti-sports-car-driver point.

Looking at the most recent IIHS data, of the sixteen cars listed as
having the highest driver death rates, the highest is the Blazer 2wd,
third highest is the Nissan 350Z, the Mustang comes in at twelfth, and
the Eclipse convertible is fifteenth. The four "deadliest" are Blazer,
Acura RSX, Nissan 350Z, and Kia Spectra Hatchback. (Data is 2001-04
models during the 2002-05 model years.)

Looking at insurance company injury losses, the Corvette was below
average at 60 (average is 100), Porsche 911 coupe 35, Porsche 911
convertible 36, etc. The average injury loss for all large sports cars
was 68, midsize sports cars 90, small sports cars 87, and mini sports
cars 81. Of all the eighteen sports cars listed, only the GTO at 114,
the Mustang at 115, and Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible a 134 were above
average.

So, if you're driving a sports car (or if you consider a Corvair to be a
sports car as do I), don't worry, be happy. :-)

Beginning in 1984 the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)

  http://www.iihs.org/default.html

started tracking car occupant death rate and found that the rate
for sports cars is nearly twice as high as for average cars...

Corvettes: 4.7 deaths per ten thousand
Mustangs: 4.3 deaths per ten thousand
Camaros: 4.3 deaths per ten thousand
Firebirds: 3.2 deaths per ten thousand

What is it about these cars that is so unsafe? The drivers.
The cars themselves are not inherently unsafe. It's the
  way people drive them...
