"...I haven't changed a blower bearing for years even though I'm running
three Corvairs...

I, too, have three. My Corvairs are daily transport--including long trips. I
also work on others, so I've changed a few failed bearings; I also change
blower bearings anytime an engine gets rebuilt. "Me thinks," if I can spend a
few extra dollars for piece of mind, and to avoid ever having to tear the top
of an engine apart to change one part, I'm gonna' spend the few extra
dollars. As previously stated, I've already found a direct replacement ceramic
replacement for Ray Sedman's replaceable core unit (I'm running that one in a van,
and the conventional bottom bearing developed a "tick" requiring
replacement). A hybrid replacement bearing, for the replaceable core application, is
about $24 vs $5 for the standard steel ball unit. For two bearings, that $38
extra; I guess I'm an odd Corvair owner (and some of you have commented as such
:>), but I'm willing to pay the few extra dollars. Once we know price and
availability, then others came make up their minds about what they prefer to
do... heck, maybe ceramic bearings are not available to replace our OEM parts,
then this conversation is moot. Again, if someone knows the bearing ID
numbers for the idler and the early and late blower bearings; please send same and
I'll research. Thank you.
