<VV> HOT coil?

i have seen one bad starter solenoid that kept full 12 volts to the coil  
even when not cranking.
i would check voltage at coil with key on , theen if using a test light ,  
see if it gets brighter (higher volts) when cranking only. or just unplug the  
yellow wire on the starter harness and see if problem goes by by.
also see if points are damaged by this situation.
