possible drive star on the end of the smaller pump shaft failed. either the  
internal teeth go or the three drive tips break off. this can be seen by just  
pulling the pump cover.
they say (i never saw one yet) that the converter can balloon enough to  loos 
its grip on the small shaft also. sounds extreme to me..like on v8  
conversions or something.
