In hot weather, I could understand the carb bowls going dry as the fuel can 
evaporate while parked.  I would think this is much less likely in the temps 
you mentioned since the engine would cool much faster.  This is why I'm 
suggesting a leak in the line as a possible cause.  Yes, it is likely that 
you would have a detectable fuel odor when you open the garage door or stand 
near the car.

On the other hand....   Maybe you are just not getting enough voltage on 
cold mornings and the bowls actually have fuel in them, but the accelerator 
pump cups are history.  Did you take the top off of a carb to verify the 
bowl is empty?  Also, adjust the chokes to close fully.
