If you mean the engine will not shut off until you pull the Coil wire?

Then

Get a Wiring diagram and start at the coil with a DVM  and find where the 12 
volts is being fed from...

My 69 had a different problem....funky voltage regulator.....would not excite 
with ignition switch....so PO  cut 1 brown wire [ 16 ga. to VR  from IGN] and 
attached to another.. [ tail light 20 ga. ]

Would only charge when light were on!..new Reg.  fixed it..
