I think Tony is right. Frankly, if you are interested in promoting new 
technology or like the whiz-bangedness of it, a Prius is a sensible 
choice. On the other hand, if you are more interested in making a sound 
economic decision, you should stay away from the Prius.  The mpg 
benefit isn't worth the added upfront cost and certainly dicey 
reliability and upcoming BIG cost of a replacement battery in a few 
years.  Want fuel economy?  Buy a a new VW diesel.
