Hi everyone, with all this talk about FC engine covers, It is rather
interesting what GM did for the Double stack engine cover
on the XL100. They took the small front access panel from a normal FC
engine compartment area and hinged two of these
panels together to give adequate height for the stacked 2nd engine
and then used a standard FC engine cover and another
access panel to give the required length to insure the airtight fit
of the top area for adequate cooling. The XL also uses a dry
sump application for the stacked (top) engine and uses four external
oil coolers instead of the one used in a regular FC engine
bay. The "Dyna Flow" tranny also uses two tranny coolers (one on each
side) in the rear fender wells...............This is really
a neat FC and it's too bad GM didn't follow through on the concept.
