I just had one of the carbs serviced because it got a piece of teflon hard line tape caught in it, so both are functioning correctly not to mention they are less than 2 years old., but I will check, it may be that one of the plugs has gone bad. It really feels like more of a transmission problem because I know that the engine is idling fine and running pretty well, with the exception of some minor valve adjustment i think

Bet money one of your carbs is not operating at idle so it is running on 3 cylinders.  Most likely an idle circuit is stopped up.  If you are running a standard ignition then pull one wire at a time from the distributor and put it back.  If every other one has no effect but the alternate ones kill the engine, you know that's what it is.  pulling a wire on a plug fed by a good carb will make it want to die.  Pulling a wire on a cylinder being fed by a non functioning carb will have no effect.                                    Smitty
