maybe heat related.  does it have the correct very thick insulating  gasket 
at the base of the carb?.  choke adjustment is ticklish on spyders ,  needs to 
be a touch richer than other cars. in other words , it may be a vapor  lock 
situation.  if you are lucky you can hear the gas boiling after it  quits.  like 
a light frying noise from the carb bowl. if the return line  from the filter 
is not free to get gas back to the tank to keep flow up to help  cool it , the 
problem might be worsened.  filter may be bad causing this to  happen also.
before all of this gets checked , do we know it has spark ok when it  fails?
