True enough. The Corsa dash panel has been cited more than once for being not only beautiful, but functional as well. While the vac/press manifold gauge was of little use on a 140, and the clock of somewhat questionable value, the head temp (and tach for a manual) was very useful. But then, consider that the Corvair was built in an era of idiot lights, when the factory thought that most people needed only a speedo and gas guages. Also consider that a Corsa dash can be added to any LM car, and that the demand has never outstripped the supply of used dashes.

So it's really not a question of the Corsa MODEL that's so prized, as merely the added instruments that people want. And in much the same way a modern CD stereo might be added, so can those valuable instruments be added as well. In my line of thinking, that doesn't justify depreciating the Monza line in general, or especially the '67-9 cars in particular. And THAT is the gist of it all.

The Corsa model isn't that special. It's the added instruments that are. Big, hairy (add-on) deal. (G)

Correct Mark - But those dash differences mean a lot. Both the big Tachometer and a cylinder head temperature gage are part of the option, plus an overtemp warning buzzer on the turbos. Most performance Corvair guys think those gages are "must-haves", as witnessed by how many folks add them, whether by installing a Corsa dash or individual aftermarket instruments . - Seth Emerson
