<VV> Upper head stud thread size

But running head studs over the wire wheel while attached to the crankcase?

The threads are 3/8 X 24. Having said that, it is very difficult to get the
die on all of the studs as they are too close together to allow you to use
the handle. I bought a socket that fit the die and used my speed wrench to
clean my threads. You might also consider a wire wheel chucked into your
drill motor as an alternative.

It's time to mention that a grinder stand with coarse and fine wire wheels
is the most frequently used power tool in my garage. Almost every bolt and
nut gets wire wheeled along with everything else that has dirt, crud and
rust on it. I wouldn't work without it.
