as long as you are careful , not to damage the polished surfaces of  the 
block halves ,  sealer is not needed or wanted on the mating  surfaces.
just make sure you carve the ends of the bellhousing gasket at the oil pan  
surface with a razor blade , and all should be fine.  i have never seen  sealer 
on block halves (except one butcher job years ago) and feel it would  change 
the main bearing support clearances.  clean clean clean , then get  yer tourqe 
wrench out!
