<VV> PPG paint advice

Good question.
I painted a '75 Cutlass with Martin Senor white lacquer and clear coated it
with DuPont Imron clear. The thought was that lacquer was so nice to apply,
and such a pain in the ass to buff to a brilliant gloss, why not skip the
buffing, and give it the wet look that Imron's so famous for with NO
buffing. Both stages went well, and the final product looked beautiful!

Well two years later, the the clearcoat started peeling off like Saranwrap;
it was a disaster.

Not sure if it was 'mixing' paint systems, or what, but I learned a lesson.
Oh, it was MY car, not someone else's, so the liability 'issue' didn't
arise...
I would seek the advice of a professional painter, or paint supplier about
using poly clear over lacquer.
