<VV> Distributor cap

Gota agree with Seth here. The Blue Streak is a great cap as are all Blue
Streak ignition products, but I find them hard to find lately. The top of
the line Echline caps from NAPA, are close to or equal to the Blue Streak.
Be careful, because NAPA is trying to compete with the discount parts
suppliers and has a few lines of caps. You want the most expensive Echline
(sp) cap.

15 or so years ago, one of the Corvair vendors had a great price on Points,
condenser and rotor kits, a really great deal if you bought 10 kits. I
bought 10, sold a few to club members and them found they had a usable life
of 2K miles. An overpriced set of NAPA points that cost 5 times as much had
a 10 times as much lifetime.

Seth,

Thanks for the suggestions. The part is a Duralast (DR998). They did have
to order it from the warehouse. Maybe I did just get a bad one. -Mark

The best way I have found to tell the quality of a distributor cap is to
weigh it. I know that sounds silly. Weigh the typical aluminum aftermarket
cap in one hand - and a Standard DR-438X Blue Streak Cap in the other - it
will be quite obvious - Brass terminals and a Heavy Duty Alkyd Resin cap
material. There are other caps of high quality, some of them Black, too.
(The
Blue Streak DR-438X is a Blue resin - anathema to stock folks!)
