Brent I think James meant that even Canada is a place where us USA citizens
need a passport to go to and from now. We did not used to need it. I don't
think he meant that Canada imposed the passport requirement.

James:

Please attribute blame to its proper source. The new requirement for
passports at the Canadian border is a requirement imposed by the US
Government after 9/11 on Canadian/US crossings. Not by Canada per se.

Please don't add further myths of your own creation concerning Canada a la
9/11, such as the widespread myth on the part of Americans that the 9/11
hijackers entered the US via Canada. Such false claims were made as recently
as by Obama's current Homeland Security Secretary (and for which she was
seriously rebuked).

Please get your facts straight, before maligning your neighbour to the
north.

Factually yours,
Brent Fullard
