I know about some of the younger set also. I have grandson 13 that lives 200 yds. from us and he showed some interest in having a car when he is old enough to drive, so I came across a nice '66 Corsa that needed quite a few things to make it a better car. New brake lines, carpet, painting,(including welding in some body panels)putting the engine back into the car and a number of other time consuming things. All things that would be valuable when he is old enough to have to do it himself. I got the car in June and it took about a month to get him down to help for the first time and in about the next month he was down a total of 3 times for close to 2 hours total. Not enough to learn all that much. However when it comes to playing video games and playing with his friends there is many hours available. I'm finishing up the car and will sell it when completed as he does not show any interest at all anymore. I would let him have it and all it would be is to spend time with me doing the work, but that's what I see happening with many of the younger kids. Maybe thing will change, but I can't keep begging him to help. I thought it was an excellent way to get a young kid started with a Corvair, but maybe it will yet, I keep hoping. Ken

George and all. This is very true younger members need help and training and
most clubs will help them, but we had a young member who needed help restoring
his car and he had no place to work on it ( lived in an apartment) and we
provided that and coaching and equipment. He came and worked on the car three
times and took up garage space for 13 months, the car was removed !! What he
REALLY wanted was for our club to restore his car for him as a project.
We will help members but they must also help themself. I realize this will
not happen often, but it did with us. Thats what car clubs do, help each other
and have fun doing it.
