Sounds like the HRPT, or horrid red plastic thingy. A popular discussion
item here. The positive lead from the battery has a small (10ga or so)
wire that connects to a junction screwed with one screw to the chassis.
Clean this connection.

I'm sure others will also answer with their solution.
